Biography

David Andersen has transitioned from building high
lift structures to sculpting in his studio.  His father
referred to him as a true Dane, in that David never
paled in the face of hard work or in his desire to
exhibit exceptional craftsmanship and creativity.  In
2004 at age 44 he resigned his career as a Masonry
Foreman to sculpt.  He has used his skills as a mason
to create many interesting and innovative
sculptures.   Within three months of sculpting his
works were on display at the 12 West Gallery.
Presently his works may be viewed at the Old
Pueblo West Gallery in Sedona, Arizona.  He is a
recipient of the 1999 “Excellence in Masonry” award
for building the WTC Robson Player facility at A.S.
U.  In the Valley his sculptures have received
Honors such as “Best of Show” 1st, 2nd and two 3rd
place ribbons.
His works integrate the use of stone, concrete,
stained glass and metal using both ancient and
modern techniques of Masonry.  Rather than that of
chiseling away he builds layer upon layer.  Many
works have a geometric circular motion with the use
of square shapes where the circles and squares are
symbolic of mans reaching for God.
Entering the world of sculpting has opened many
avenues for the direction of David’s life and has
helped him to understand who he is.  He stated:  “In
this pursuit I have found my interaction with others
more honest and engaging, for that which an artist
creates is a window to their soul.”
Artist Statement

I am very passionate about life and the pursuit of
the many challenges it brings.  I find that in creating,
one exposes a personal insight into who they are.
My path has been one of rebelling from the
stereotypes man places on each of us.  There is
spirituality in the process of creating, often waking
in the late hours of the night visualizing an idea for
a creation.  Feeling the inception of this desire comes
from a greater power.   As time moves forward the
feeling turns to knowledge.  As I create, this has
verification not only in that of a spiritual nature but
that of the geometric precision.  Experiencing a time
of trial, adversity and despair has greatly enriched
my walk on this earth.  My eyes have been opened
to the wonder of life and the gifts gathered from the
ying and the yang (as they say).  Joy, sadness, love,
hate and the ever present struggle between good
and evil!  For in this walk I have found my path
which has been one of faith in that greater power;
even Heavenly Father.  In this process a testimony
of peace, happiness and clarity of who I am has been
defined.   Therefore, in each piece I create, is that
clarity, spirituality and blessing from the ever
present greater power.
Even Jesus Christ...
